Internet VC Brad Feld has good advice for companies that find themselves out of the top 3 players in a particular market:

He says if you're not in the top three, that you should "re-segment", which involve stepping back and redefining the market segment you are going after by changing your customer, product focused distribution channel or other dynamics.
