NEW YORK, NY -- Media monitoring firm Competitrack has formally launched its fingerprinting technology for keeping tabs on online video piracy and copyright infringement.

The company says the system is already in use by a number of performing rights organizations throughout the U.S. and that the solution is effective with sites such as Metacafe and YouTube.

The technology "uses advanced digital pattern recognition technology and can locate content from movies, music videos, television programs, and even B-roll," according to a company statement.
