Rocket Lab To Build Orbital Launch Site

   Los Angeles, California  --  Rocket Lab has announced its intention to build and operate what it calls the first commercial orbital launch site.

The company said that it will build the facility in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island.

The site will be used by its customers to launch imaging and communications satellites used for a variety of services such as weather monitoring, natural disaster management, search and rescue data, GPS and Internet from space.

Rocket said that it selected the site based on its ability to launch vehicles to a wide range of inclinations from sun-synchronous through 245°.

The company estimates that the site is will be completed and ready for testing in the fourth quarter of 2015.
