Venture Capital Funding Activity

Michael Greeley of Flybridge Capital Partners has a good post up on the latest numbers from the NVCA on venture capital firm investments for the third quarter, 2011:

He makes a number of points, but a couple of notable items are that seed investing was down during the quarter and life science investment activity also decreased. On a more positive note, software investing grew significantly.

VC Cash Crunch

Successful Internet VC Fred Wilson has a good post up with his thoughts on whether or not there is a "cash crunch" for Internet startups:

He makes five different points and generally does not see a true cash crunch for web startups. However, he sees Angel investors pulling back and since they are a significant source of funding for very early-stage startups, that is "taking the heat out" of a few overheated markets.

The article basically says that Samsung likes to use its VC unit to explore various sectors it is interested in and then floods the sector of their choice with multiple investments to own the sector.
