PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Medical device maker Gentis Inc. announced the closing of its first institutional round of financing, securing $10 million.

Gentis has developed the DiscCell (TM) in-situ polymerizing spinal nucleus augmentation technology, which assists spinal damaged patients who have had a discectomy by injecting a polymer in place of the removed disc.

Investors in the round were led by Pappas Ventures and Easton Capital, and included Ivy Capital Partners and Matignon Technologies.  The company intends to use the funds to complete pre-clinical testing and the pilot clinical study required to file an IDE with the FDA.
