MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- Internet search company Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) announced the acquisition of Postini for $625 million in cash.

Postini allows enterprises to manage, secure and archive their email communications from one central application.  The software is hosted as an on-demand service and claims to serve more than 35,000 businesses and 10 million users worldwide.

The transaction will result in Postini being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google.  It will continue to operate as a separate entity, however Google states that there will be  some form of integration with Google Apps.
