ESI Acquires New Wave Research For $36 Million

PORTLAND, OR -- Electronics manufacturing systems company Electro-Scientific Industries (Nasdaq: ESIO)  announced the acquisition of New Wave Research of Fremont, CA for $36 million in cash.

New Wave Research develops and manufactures laser-based systems and modules for the microelectronics and analytical instrumentation industries.  It's products are designed for applications in flat-panel display repair, semiconductor failure analysis and cutting patterns in semiconductors.

Electro-Scientific estimates that the acquisition will be accretive to earnings in its 2009 fiscal year.
