UPEK Launches Mac Fingerprint Swiper At Macworld

EMERYVILLE, CA -- Biometric security company UPEK, Inc., announced the launch of its Protector Suite for Mac software at the annual Macworld trade show.

The hardware/software combination allows users to swipe their finger to logon, unlock Keychain, unlock secure preferences to access administrator-level settings, unlock the FileVault to access the user's home folder and unlock the screensaver.

The benefit of the product is that it increases security while because it encourages the use of more complex passwords, and eliminates the need to remember them, since the user simply swipes their finger to gain secure access.
