TORONTO, ON -- Internet company Idée Inc. announced the launch of what it says is the world's first image identification Web search engine.

Called TinEye, the system does not use tags or keywords.  Instead, it allows users to utilize an actual photo from the Web to find wherever else it appears on the Web.

The company says it has indexed close to half a billion images by looking at the pixels in the images.  Even if the image has been altered or cropped, Idée says it can identify it.
