North Haven, Connecticut  --  Medical device company Covidien (NYSE: COV) announced the launch of what it calls the first FDA approved spine sealant.

The purpose of the sealant, called DuraSeal, is for intra-operative sealing of the dural membrane during spinal operations.

The company cited a clinical study of more than 150 patients, where the spine sealant was shown to be a superior sealing agent when compared to other closure techniques such as sutures or fibrin sealants.
