Worldwide PC Shipments Decline In Q109

Thursday, April 16, 2009 5:17:00 AM PDT | VentureDeal Staff

Stamford, Connecticut  --  Worldwide Personal computer shipments declined 6.5% in the first quarter of 2009, according to a preliminary report from Gartner, Inc.

The report also stated that Hewlett-Packard increased its lead in the worldwide PC market, tallying 19.8% of global shipments during the quarter and also registering higher growth rates than regional averages.

“We are seeing some evidence of channel inventory restocking, particularly in the U.S.,” said George Shiffler, research director at Gartner. “This restocking should not be interpreted as a recovery in PC end-user demand; it’s still unclear if the global PC market has hit the bottom.”
