Miami, Florida  --  Satellite technology company Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT) has announced the launch of a new satellite data service for the maritime industry.

Called FleetBroadband 150, the news service downloads Internet data at 150 Kbps and allows maritime vessels of all sides to communicate via phone, SMS or e-mail.

“The emphasis is on compactness, outstanding performance and simplicity,” said Piers Cunningham, Maritime Business Director, Inmarsat. “Our long-term development plan for FleetBroadband was to take all the benefits of our proven network and construct a low-cost package targeting small maritime vessels and boats. For the first time, FB150 brings large vessel connectivity to smaller boats”.
