Solazyme Sees $57 Million Venture Capital Round

South San Francisco, California  --  Alternative energy company Solazyme has secured $57 million in its third round of institutional venture capital investment.

Solazyme has developed microbial photosynthesis technologies to create "commercially relevant, sunlight driven biochemical pathways."

Braemar Energy Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners led the round, which also included The Roda Group, Harris & Harris Group, VantagePoint Venture Partners and other undisclosed investors. The company did not disclose how the funding proceeds would be used.
