AeroEnvironment Global Observer Makes First Flight

Edwards Air Force Base, California  --  Aerospace company AeroEnvironment announced that its unmanned hybrid electric aircraft flew on its maiden flight.

Called the Global Observer Aircraft 1001, it features rechargeable batteries and will ultimately carry a liquid hydrogen fueled propulsion system to power it to very high altitude, long endurance flight.

The aircraft is designed to fly at an altitude between 55,000 and 65,000 feet for periods of 5 to 7 days.
