Intel Debuts Next-Generation Processors

Santa Clara, California  --  Semiconductor giant Intel Corp. announced the details of two next-generation processors.

The Xeon E5 family of chips was announced as the world's "first server chip to support the PCI Express* 3.0 I/O integration." The Xeon E5 promises to deliver up to 2.1 times more performance in raw FLOPS.

Also, the company announced its Many Integrated Core, Intel MIC, designed for high-performance computing environments.

One of the benefits of the Intel MIC architecture is that it allows computers to run existing applications without the need to port the code to a new programming environment.
