San Francisco, California  --  Payments technology company PayByPhone has announced the deployment of near Field communications (NFC) payment solutions for San Francisco.

Drivers will soon have the option to pay for parking with their NFC-enabled mobile phones by utilizing an NFC "sticker" on the city's 30,800 parking space meters.

The sticker is composed of a passive electronic chip that does not require a battery and stores information about the parking space.  PayByPhone said that this will be one of the largest deployments of NFC technology in the United States.

The system has already been deployed in the Castro district and is being rolled out to the rest of San Francisco.
