Vandenberg Air Force Base, California  --  Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) has broken ground on the construction of the launch site for the world's most powerful rocket.

The Falcon Heavy will have more than twice the payload to orbit capacity of the space shuttle and will be the first-ever rocket to break the $1,000 per pound to orbit barrier.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that the Falcon family of vehicles promises to save the US government almost $2 billion per year in launch costs, provided competition for space flight is allowed.
