FIRST Launches 2013 Robotics Competition

   United States  --  High school robotics organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) has announced the kickoff of its annual robotics competition throughout the US.

Founded by technologist Dean Kamen, the competition provides 2,550 high school-aged teams nationwide with a Kit of Parts made up of a variety of motors, batteries, control systems and automation components.

The goal of the competition is to encourage teams to develop robots based on their own designs using standardized resources.

FIRST was founded in 1989.
