Waynesboro, Virginia  --  Telecommunications providers DISH and nTelos Holdings have deployed a rural fixed wireless broadband capability for pilot testing.

Available in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the service provides 2.5 GHz LTE signal to homes in the area and delivers broadband speeds ranging from 20 Mbps to more than 50 Mbps.

The two firms state that more than 1/5 of American households are "underserved by broadband."

Details on the duration of the trial service or plans for expansion were not disclosed.
