Columbia, South Carolina  --  SCRA Technology Ventures has announced that it has made an investment in a South Carolina-based alternative energy company.

Through its SC Launch program, SCRA has invested $200,000 in BarberWind Turbines of Greenville.

BarberWind is developing a 800 kW capacity wind turbine that it says will be manufactured in upstate South Carolina and is designed to serve the mid-size wind market.

The turbine promises to be "engineered to perfectly fit the needs of industrial parks and data centers, small communities, farms and ranches, water treatment plants, island nations, amusement parks, sports arenas and other commercial complexes."

SCRA says that it has deployed over $83 million in funding for entrepreneurs and infrastructure that has supported more than 300 high-tech, early-stage enterprises.

BarberWind was accepted into the SC Launch program in June, 2014.
