Education companies can include online education resources, software that is focused on the administrative education process and course delivery systems.
Below is a chart showing the distribution of education startups receiving investment throughout the US and Canada since January 1, 2015:

California showed the greatest number of fundings, with 31 companies funded so far this year.
New York came in second with 14 transactions.
Massachusetts was third with 11 transactions during the period.
Of note, Washington State accounted for 8 deals, a fourth place result. This is notable since Washington has not ranked in the top five for any other industry.
Texas and Illinois followed with six transactions each.
A total of 23 U.S. states received at least one funding deal and Canadian companies accounted for only one transaction.
