USV Changes Investment Focus

New York, New York  --  Successful venture capital firm Union Square Ventures has announced a change in its investment thesis.

You can read about it from their blog post here:

USV Thesis 2.0

This is news because USV has been very successful in investing in network-based companies that sit on top of the Internet infrastructure.

The chief feature of their investment portfolio to-date has been to invest in companies that have a mission of centralizing and monetizing the data from large networks of users.

The change in thesis going forward is a shift in the opposite direction.

USV is now interested in those technologies that will decentralize data, create efficiencies from that decentralization and of course monetize those processes.

The firm has already made investments in Bitcoin and blockchain technologies and has signaled a further interest in blockchain companies due to the potential of the nascent system for securely decentralizing ownership, authorship and other bundles of rights for both digital and real-world goods and services.

USV has been fairly disciplined in pursuing its thesis-based approach to investing over the years.

It will be fascinating to watch the investment moves they make in the years ahead.
