Delphi To Launch Automated Drive Across America

Monday, March 16, 2015 5:01:00 AM PDT | VentureDeal

Gillingham, England  --  Delphi Automotive PLC (NYSE: DLPH) said that it will launch the longest automated vehicle drive attempted in North America to date.

The trip will begin in San Francisco on March 22 and aims to end its journey in New York, a distance of approximately 3,500 miles.

The automated driving vehicle will feature radar, vision and advanced driver assistance systems as well as a wireless vehicle communication technology and intelligent software.

The company says that its safety technologies will enable the vehicle to "instantaneously make complex decisions, like stopping and then proceeding at a four-way stop, timing a highway merge or calculating the safest maneuver around a bicyclist on a city street."

Delphi says that the purpose of the initiative is to both gather information as well as demonstrate its automated driving technologies.
