San Francisco, California  -- Non-profit Charge Across Town has announced the launch of a new free EV charging initiative.

Called Driving on Sunshine, the program is sponsoring free solar-powered electric vehicle charging at locations in San Francisco.

The group is collaborating with the San Francisco Department of the Environment and Envision Solar to enable electric vehicles to charge from EV stations powered solely by solar power.

Three Electric Vehicle Autonomous Renewable Chargers will be provided by Envision Solar for a three month time period.

One of the benefits of the program is to collect data on frequency and duration of use.

The program is funded by the 11th Hour Project, a program of The Schmidt Family Foundation.
