Markham, Canada  --  Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG) has announced the Canadian launch of a new medical device in Canada.

Called the Philips Respironics V680 Ventilator, the device helps patients with a smoother transition from full, invasive ventilation to natural breathing.

According to the company, it is the first ventilator to "combine the Philips gold standard single-limb noninvasive ventilation (NIV) solution with a fully featured, dual-limb system."

The system will provide advanced life support for critically ill patients while the same time making it easier to switch from invasive to noninvasive ventilation.

The ventilator is in addition to the company's existing portfolio of respiratory care solutions.

It is available in Canada and several European markets, and is waiting for US FDA clearance for US launch.
