San Francisco, California  --  Virtual reality technology company Linden Lab said that a small number of individuals have been invited to begin testing its new platform for virtual experiences.

Code-named Project Sansar, the new platform will "democratize virtual-reality as a creative medium. It will empower people to easily create, share and monetize their own multi-user interactive virtual experiences, without requiring engineering resources."

Linden Lab said that the new platform will provide users on PCs as well as virtual reality headsets such as Oculus Rift to access the system with "exceptional visual fidelity, 3D audio and physics simulation."

The company feels that its new project will do too virtual reality what WordPress has done for people wishing to create blogs on the Web.

Sansar is slated for general availability in 2016.
