Herndon, Virginia  --  German automaker Audi has announced the pricing for its first electrified car to be sold to the US.

The 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron will be sold for a base price of $37,900 before applicable state and federal incentives and tax credits.

The plug-in hybrid will be available nationwide in October and will feature a 1.4 Liter engine with a liquid cooled, permanent magnet-driven electric motor.

The engine will produce 204 hp and the battery pack will be located beneath the rear seat, which will allow for ample trunk space.

Charging will be handled by a 240 V power source, which can connect to either side of the vehicle and replenish the battery in as little as two hours and 15 minutes. Use of a 120 V outlet will take approximately 8 hours for a full charge.
